Language Arts - https://grade3ferguson.weebly.com/language-arts.html
In Language Arts, we have been gaining independence and a deeper understanding of our word sort activities! This week we practiced speed sorts, hidden sorts, and word hunts in our reading books. We practiced writing our words on whiteboards and with friends. Please continue to reinforce word sort practice at home to assist your child with their spelling skills. This week, we practiced writing step by step instructions when we wrote about how we would build a scarecrow. We are also beginning to work on adding elaborative details to our writing to make it more interesting. We participated in keyboarding practice during our computer block on the website Dance Mat Typing. As always, daily reading is a priority that we never miss. We read new books in library on Tuesdays and with our Grade 6 reading buddies on Wednesdays. We are also reading "The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles" by Julie Andrews Edwards as a class. Ask your child about what they are reading at school! 😊
Math - https://grade3ferguson.weebly.com/math.html
In Math, we are working on place value and representing numbers. We have been writing 2 and 3 digit numbers in standard form, expanded form, base ten blocks, and written form. We are ensuring that we record our numbers carefully to help us recognize the value of each digit. This sets the foundation for success with 2 and 3 digit addition and subtraction. Ask your child to show you an example! 😊
Example:
Standard Form: 364
Expanded Form: 300 + 60 + 4 = 364
Written Form: three hundred sixty-four
Science - https://grade3ferguson.weebly.com/science.html
In Science, we have been learning how geologists sort rocks into the 3 main categories - igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. We have been building a rock lapbook (interactive file folder) to highlight key topics and vocabulary. Check out the science links on our class website!

In Social, we finished up our imaginary islands. I have scanned and uploaded them to our class website. Take a look!

Tuesday 31st - Halloween
At Riverstone this year, we will be wearing costumes and officially recognizing Halloween on Tuesday, October 31st. The whole school will be participating in a room to room costume parade starting around 10:40. When selecting costumes for school, please remember that Riverstone is a K-8 school, therefore we need to be extra mindful of not wearing costumes that might scare our younger students. We also ask that if your costume has any prop weapons that those be left at home. If your child has a mask that is part of their costume, they will be allowed to wear it for the costume parade, but will be asked to take it off for the rest of the day. Thank you for your help in making this Halloween a fun and safe one for our students! 🎃
Thank you! Take care! 😊
