Here are some quick updates for our class!
📚 Learning Updates:
Math - We are skip counting forwards and backwards by 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, and 10's every day! Our improving skip counting skills are also helping us to describe, extend, and create increasing and decreasing number patterns. For increasing number patterns, we skip count forwards or add. For decreasing number patterns, we skip count backwards or subtract. We are learning how to write pattern rules to describe various patterns starting from any number.
Examples:
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21...
Pattern rule: Start at 3 and increase by 3 each time.
45, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15...
Start at 45 and decrease by 5 each time.
Ask your child to show you another example!
Language Arts - We are continuing our daily routine of word sort tasks, printing practice/cursive writing, writing skills, and reading skills! For a creative writing project, students had the opportunity to design and describe their own school! We are also working on another special writing project where students are identifying the best part of themselves and describing the reasons why it is special and important. Self-editing our work by checking for neatness, capitals, punctuation, and using our personal dictionaries to increase our spelling accuracy remain an ongoing focus. Thank you for your support with November's home reading program! We have one more big goal this week to finish off the month and then we are on to an exciting class goal for December!
Social Studies - We have been learning all about Peru! We took a virtual field trip to Peru on Google Maps and toured city streets, ancient temples, and the various landscapes! We have been discussing the unique characteristics and symbols of Peru, including the various land regions, climates, layers of the rain forest, festivals, and celebrations. Ask your kiddo to tell you some fun facts about Peru!

The Christmas Concert will be formatted very similar to last year's event. Each grade level will have a special song performance that goes along with the larger play that our cast of older students will be acting in. There will be a sign in/sign out system at the venue to ensure all students are accounted for as they wait backstage. The committee will communicate detailed instructions for parents prior to the performance to ensure the sign in/sign out system is clear and efficient. The Grade 3's will be performing a fantastic song called "The No Christmas Blues!" We have been practicing every day and are very excited to perform! In the song, we are singing from the perspective of hard-working little elves! We will be creating elf ear/hat headbands in class but for the rest of the costume, students can dress up in concert clothes, Christmas colours, or whatever you and your child prefer! I will send more details as the date approaches! 🎄🎅🎵
