The snow is officially here! Thank you for sending your child with all of the winter gear they need to stay warm and enjoy their outdoor recess breaks! ❄⛄❄
💕 Remembrance Day
We discussed the significance of Remembrance Day this week and participated in a beautiful school ceremony this morning. I am so proud of the consideration and understanding that our class demonstrated while honouring this important day.
📙 Language Arts
We are continuing our daily routine of word sort tasks, printing practice, writing skills, and reading skills. For a creative writing project, students had the opportunity to design and describe their own imaginary school! Self-editing our work by checking for neatness, capitals, punctuation, and using our personal dictionaries to increase our spelling accuracy remain an ongoing focus.
We have also created "All About Me" nonfiction text features file folder lapbooks! The students have been learning all about various nonfiction text features while constructing an interactive lapbook that highlights their own life! 📁
📖 Home Reading
A friendly reminder that we have 4 home reading goals to crush this month!
Week 1 (Nov 4 – 10) - 60 minutes total for the week (minimum)
Week 2 (Nov 11 – 17) - 70 minutes total for the week (minimum)
Week 3 (Nov 18 – 24) - 80 minutes total for the week (minimum)
Week 4 (Nov 25 – 30) - 90 minutes total for the week (minimum)
Please continue to record minutes on the November calendar page in your child's agenda. We will complete a home reading agenda check every Monday this month. Our first home reading check will be on Tuesday, November 13th, after the long weekend.
I have attached the note that went home with your child's library books this week. We are now signing out 3 books each week - 2 good fit leveled books and 1 free choice book! Our weekly library block is every Tuesday. 📚
📘 Math - Patterns & Skip Counting
We have been reviewing what we already know about patterns and beginning to build on our existing knowledge and skills to explore a variety increasing anddecreasing patterns. We will practice these patterns using symbols (such as blocks), as well as numbers.
For increasing (growing) number patterns, we skip count forwards or add. For decreasing (shrinking) number patterns, we skip count backwards or subtract. We are learning how to write pattern rules to describe various patterns starting from any number.
Pattern Rule Examples:
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21...
Pattern Rule: Start at 3 and increase by 3 each time.
45, 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15...
Pattern Rule: Start at 45 and decrease by 5 each time.
Ask your child to show you another example!
🌏 Social - Peru
We have started exploring the beautiful country of Peru! We took a virtual field trip to Peru using Google Maps. We traveled down to South America along the coastline to the capital city, Lima. We then trekked through the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu! We checked out the Maras salt mines and local markets. We made it back to Canada just in time for gym class at the end of the day - whew! 😉

🚌 Dinosaur Museum Field Trip
The date is approaching fast and we are eagerly anticipating our first big field trip of the year! We are still in need of 1 parent volunteer. I have attached the information note again that has all of the details. Please email me as soon as possible if you are available to join us on Wednesday, November 21st. 😊
📝 Pencil Sharpeners - Unfortunately, our electric pencil sharpener has been jammed beyond repair and many students do not have their own working sharpener at this time. Please ask your child if they have a working sharpener, or if they may need a new one. It is very important that each student has one so we can keep our pencils sharpened and ready to go! Thank you for your attention to this matter.
