Happy May! We have a jam-packed month ahead of us! I have attached an electronic copy of our May class calendar that was sent home last week.
Here are some quick updates for our class!
📓 Learning Updates:
We had a special presentation from a published illustrator this week! Gerry Rasmussen shared his cartooning talents with the elementary students and inspired the kiddos to further explore and develop their own drawing skills. Here is his website if you'd like to check out more of his work!

📘 Math - We have started learning all about basic fractions! We have learned that fractions are equal parts of a whole or a set.
The numerator (top number) tells us how many equal parts are being described.
The denominator (bottom number) tells us how many equal parts there are in total in the whole or set.
We are practicing how to represent fractions with pictures and numbers. We are learning how to read, write, and say fractions as well, such as one half (1/2), one third (1/3), one fourth (1/4), etc. Help your child to look for fractions around your home, your neighbourhood, and while you are out in the community!
📁 Science - We are in the final stages of our animal research projects! Ask your child to tell you some interesting facts about their animal!
📕 Social - The next fascinating country that we will be studying is Tunisia! If you or anyone you know has anything exciting to share about Tunisian culture, please let me know! 😊
🌎 Grade Three Social Studies Cultural Food Festival Celebration
The grade three students have worked hard this year learning about four countries. The countries we have focused on are Peru, Tunisia, Ukraine and India. Fashion, demographics, traditions, celebrations, schooling, climate, facts and food were explored. We would like to take the opportunity to come together and share what makes each student special through a food festival.
On Friday May 24th the grade three students will participate and share dishes that represent who they are. Each student is asked to bring a dish that may represent their culture or a special event or celebration they participate in. A couple examples are cabbage rolls for Ukraine or Pizza for Italy. The possibilities are endless.
On May 22nd (Wednesday) students are asked to bring in a paper plate, (plastic) fork, spoon and knife.
We ask for all dishes to be precooked prior to the morning of May 24th (Friday). If you are sending a dish that needs to be heated, we will have ovens available at the school and staff to heat it up. Please contact your child’s teacher with any instructions.
Students will share what makes each dish special to them and enjoy a lunch full of culture and celebration. We thank our families for helping make this celebration possible!
