🏫 Here is a quick summary of what we have been up to lately:
📚 Language Arts
📝 We have started writing full narrative stories! We began by filling in a point form story planner to sequence our key ideas and details. Complete stories require an entertaining beginning and elaborative details about the main character, setting, and important object(s). Once those components are established, suspense and a problem must be introduced, followed by the main event where the main character tries to solve their problem in multiple ways. We wrap up our stories with an ending that solves the problem and nicely concludes our story line. Students are now working on their first drafts. The final step is creating a published (good copy) story after editing our first drafts. Ask your child to tell you about their story ideas and the writing process.
🏅 Congratulations to all of our Home Reading Olympics Finalists for the month of February! We had an exciting awards ceremony today to celebrate the hard work and dedication that was put into their accomplishments! Here are the photos from our ceremony today! The energy and excitement of achieving their goals was so wonderful to witness!
🐣 We have a new egg-stra special home reading challenge for the month of March!
Egg-stra Special March Home Reading Goal Levels:
Egg-xtraordinary Level = 28 - 31 Nights
Egg-cellent Level = 20 - 27 Nights
Egg-citing Level = 15 - 19 Nights
The home reading goal agenda check for March will be on our first day back to school after Spring Break on Monday, April 1st (no joke)! 😉
📘 Math
We have been practicing the break it down (expanded form) strategy for 2 digit and 3 digit subtraction equations. We have been playing lots of fun math games and practicing how to know when regrouping/borrowing is needed. Here is our little poem to help us remember.
More on the top, no need to stop!
More on the floor, go next door, borrow a 10, that's 10 ones more!
AND/OR:
More on the floor, go next door, borrow 100, that's 10 tens more!
Numbers the same? Zero's the game!
Ask your child to show you some examples.
📗 Science
This week we built various beams and reviewed all of the building and design terms and concepts that we have learned so far. The students are so excited to share their balancing animals on Monday!
📕 Social
The next fascinating country that we will be studying is Ukraine! If you or anyone you know has anything exciting to share about Ukrainian culture, please let me know! 😊

❓ Are You Returning? - Message from the Riverstone School Office
In order to help us effectively plan for the 2019-2020 school year, it is important that we gather as much information as possible. A survey is being emailed out this week to all parents of students in grades K-7 asking if you are planning to stay at Riverstone or attend elsewhere. We would appreciate you taking a few minutes of your time to let us know your plans for next year. If you are unable to fill out the survey electronically, you can request a paper copy from your child's teacher or contact the school office.
