Here are some quick updates for our class:

DiscoverE Presentation
University of Alberta Faculty of Engineering students visited our school to help us learn all about building and testing designs! Our class had a chance to build bridges using various materials and then put them to the test.
Pillar Testing
Students worked together in small groups to build 3 different shapes of pillars - triangular, rectangular, and cylindrical. As all great engineers do, we put our designs to the ultimate test! Using heavy textbooks, we stacked them on top until our pillars could no longer hold the weight. Here are our class results:
Triangular - between 0-3 textbooks
Rectangular - between 0-2 textbooks
Cylindrical - between 7-17 textbooks
Ask your kiddo about this experiment. Why did the cylindrical pillar hold the most weight? Why were the others unable to hold as much weight?
