Happy Easter! I hope you enjoy your Easter long weekend with your family and friends! 🐰🥕
Here are some quick updates for our class.
📘 Math - We have been exploring and refining our basic multiplication skills with flashcards, games, and strategy practice. We are now applying our multiplication knowledge while exploring related division facts. We think about multiplication as "groups of" and now we will be thinking about division as "shared equally." Our main strategies are related. For example, when we multiply, we skip count forwards. For division, we will now skip count backwards. When we multiply, we use repeated addition. For division, we will now use repeated subtraction. We are still able to draw pictures, models, and arrays to help us visually see our problem solving. ✖️ ➗
🐛 Science - The junior zoologists of 3F have been fully immersed in the study of animal classifications and life cycles! Students practiced and performed a short readers theater script to teach their classmates about the characteristics of each classification. We also studied the butterfly life cycle this week and learned some interesting scientific facts about metamorphosis and the changes that occur throughout the four stages. Our trained zoologists are now ready for their very own research mission. Next week, we will begin a research project where each student will have the opportunity to study an animal in great detail. The end product will be a research fact file folder that details the behaviour, adaptations, habitat, diet, life cycle, and fun facts about their animal! 📁
📅 Important Upcoming Dates

Monday April 29 - Munchalunch - Mary Browns 🍗
🧦 Riverstone Dignity Drive - Ongoing until the end of April
The students of Riverstone School will be collecting packages of new socks and underwear to donate to local organizations that assist those in need. Throughout the month of April, please consider sending in packages of new socks and underwear to contribute to our class donation. We will gather them in our classroom and donate them at the end of the month! This will be a friendly, school-wide competition between all homeroom classes! Please help 3F contribute a large donation! Thank you in advance! 😊
📚 April Home Reading Goal – Reading is Giving Class Challenge
Our April goal is to read 100 books as a class. When each student finishes a book, they will be asked to complete a “Book Critique” form at school and then place a sticker on our class poster. We will have the opportunity to submit our book total to Scholastic and they will donate books to help build libraries for kids in need. Please continue to read and record home reading minutes on the agenda calendar page. We are getting very close to our class goal! Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to your child's literacy development! 😊
🌳 Neighbourhood Walks - Field Trip Permission Form
Now that spring has sprung and the weather has improved, we will have a couple of opportunities to venture out into our immediate community to take part in various activities. These activities may include events such as the City Scrub, where we assist in cleaning up our neighbourhoods, as well as special trips to the neighbourhood playgrounds. We will stay within the immediate neighbourhoods of Riverstone, Cobblestone, and Creekside. We have sent home a general field trip form that gives permission for these neighbourhood walks for multiple occurrences. This way, we can venture out multiple times without multiple forms needed.
Please sign and return the permission form by Tuesday April 23rd, 2019.
Thank you in advance! 😊
