I hope you have had a wonderful week so far and are doing well. We have all officially had to bust out our snowsuits and shovels and embrace the recent snowfall! Even though we haven’t even had Halloween yet, it’s already beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! ⛄
📚 Here are some quick learning updates for our class:
📘 Math - We are continuing to strengthen our place value skills with 3 digit numbers. Our main focus continues to be on practicing how to represent numbers in standard form, expanded form, picture form/base ten blocks, and written form/number words.
📙 Language Arts - We are continuing our daily balanced literacy routine of printing practice, reading comprehension skill development, grammar review, and focused writing time. We are focusing on opinion writing right now. So far, students have written about their opinions on the best breakfast, the coolest animal, the best vacation destination, and whether or not they think kids should have chores. Ask your child what their opinions were on these topics, as well as their reasons to support their point of view.
📗 Science - We have completed our interactive file folder lapbooks that organize all of our key concepts about rocks and minerals. We have explored the layers of the earth, the three types of rocks, the rock cycle, the various rock properties that we can observe and test, and so much more! We even got to brainstorm our very own rock designs and write about where we found them and the properties that described them. Thank you to everyone who has sent in their rock collection photos so far. It has been very exciting to show and share some personal collections with the class!
⭐ Special Announcement - As we all know, this year is very different than most and we are having to rethink the way we do a lot of things. Unfortunately, we are unable to go on regular field trips at this time. In the spirit of reimagining how these kinds of experiences could happen instead, I have been collaborating with the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum and am excited to announce that we will be attending a live virtual field trip via video conference with an educator from the dinosaur museum! This will be an exciting opportunity to expand our knowledge about geology and learn from someone who has dedicated their career to this field! I announced this exciting news to the class today and we are all really looking forward to our virtual field trip on Wednesday, November 4th in the afternoon.
